How Long Is Too Long To Wait After Job Interview

Yesterday, I had an interview scheduled at 9am for an open position in an American Company here in Stuttgart. I waited and waited for this interview. Please read through the specifics, sorry for the long post but I wanted to get your views about the situation and not leave out important details. First let me go back a couple of months. I saw the job posting on this web site and sent an e-mail asking if german was required. I've only been here since January and know about 20 words including danke. The recruiter replied that day and said, no, german is not required, please send your resume/CV. I sent it and she replied within hours, yes, we'd like to interview you for the opening. I sent her my resume. She reviewed it and said, you are qualified and then she sent me a 20 page application to fill out. Did that step and sent the application and she said, we need to schedule the interview Monday June 1st. I replied, Okay, what time? And then it's like she went to the black hole of cyberspace.

Unfortunately, you probably didn't get the job. if you did, would you want a job at a company that waits three weeks to get back to you? If your job interview was a phone screen, you probably only get called if the company would like an in person interview. If you interviewed in person, then you would usually get a call within a day or two. I personally, think it is bad form not to call someone after an in person interview to let them know one way or the other. If you worked directly with HR, then it would be appropriate to call the next day and ask for feedback and tell them how interested you are in the job. If you worked through a headhunter, you should do the same. I wouldn't make a second call as that would appear desperate. If you are actively looking, you shouldn't be waiting for any one job to come through anyway. Your goal should be to get as many phone screens and interviews as possible. This will keep you from fixating and help build your interview skills. It isn't unusually to submit 100 resumes or more to get a good job.

But the point was, I had to think fast and determine, should I continue to wait despite the fact that this guy was in the office and didn't take 2 minutes to come to me and apologize for the delay and ask to reschedule. I trusted my gut and decided to tell the receptionist as nicely as possible, This is obviously a bad time.
